Background to the site
dmscollectables started when a lifelong interest in history, especially family and local history, morphed into a hobby collecting books, objects and ephemera of local interest. This collecting habit then extended into writing, and then into trading, buying, and then selling, the sort of stuff that I had developed an interest in. It is still manageably small micro business, and a complete contrast to the corporate world I once trod. My wife and I run it together, hence the liberal references to ‘we’.
Based near Darwen in Lancashire, we mostly sell books, including my own novels, and ephemera. We organise the Barlow Book Fair in Edgworth, and take a table at others from time to time across the North West. You can also find a few shelves of our stock at the tourist office and bookshop in Sedbergh.
The ‘Cable Archives’ are somewhat anomalous, a legacy of life in the UK cable telecoms industry. They have been left on this site a point of interest rather than to achieve anything more. Then again, the material is ephemera, and is now of historical interest..

A note on copyright
There are both commercial and non-commercial elements to this website. Background to the novels is regarded as being non-commercial, albeit those pages do draw from a variety of sources. The information provided is included on the basis that it might be of interest to readers of the novels. The ‘Cable Archives’ are included as a source of UK cable TV ephemera, mostly from the 1990s.
Novels related material on the website originates from family archives (images and business documents), has been created by the author (written material and some images), is believed to be out of copyright due to its age (mostly images), or is covered by the fair dealing exemption. Efforts have been made to check sources but in many cases works are anonymous or there is simply no information available. Copyright law is also complex so mistakes can occasionally happen despite undertaking reasonable enquiry. If you do have an issue with any of the material please email the author using the contact link on the appropriate page, identifying the image or other material, stating the problem you have with it and some reasonable evidence of copyright ownership. It will be removed.
Sources of material are cited where they are known. Some items have been collected via on-line auctions and collectors fairs.
Copyright on photographs created after June 1st 1957, or for earlier photographs still in copyright (under previous 50 year rule) on July 1st 1995, is generally seventy years from the death of the author, or seventy years after the end of the year in which the work was first published, or created (where the author is unknown).
