WW2 aircraft A U.S. Air Force photograph of a Messerschmitt Bf-109E-4 shot down on September 1st 1940. It managed a ‘belly flop’ landing at Shoeburyness, Essex and was intact enough to be used as a fund and morale raising tool. Melias Transport carried the aircraft to various locations during its tour of Lancashire. It is pictured here sited near the Dobson statue on Victoria Square, Bolton.
