The birth year for photography is generally accepted to be 1839, although it would still be a decade or two before new processes facilitated wider availability. Prior to 1850 lithographic prints were really the only visual record of life and environment. These prints are taken from an 1831 book, ‘Lancashire Illustrated’, using works created by S. Austin, J. Harwood, and G&C Pyne. The prints are in no particular order, and do not necessarily illustrate scenes from ‘Liverpool’.
